How it works

Three numbers and you are done

Every calculator follows the same steps, so once you have used one you know them all.

1

Measure the area

Enter length and width in feet or metres, or type the total area straight from your plan.

2

Pick a depth

Each calculator suggests a typical depth. Mulch is usually 2 to 3 in, a new lawn base 4 to 6 in.

3

Order with a margin

You get cubic yards or metres, tons and bag counts, with an option to add extra for settling.

Accuracy

Every result is checked three ways

A wrong number means a second trip to the supplier or a pile of leftover material. That is why each calculator is tested before it goes live, and again whenever we change it.

1

Tested by people

We work through every calculator by hand with real measurements and compare the answer with a worked example on paper.

2

Reviewed by industry experts

Landscapers and material suppliers check our depths, densities and bag sizes against what they use on real jobs.

3

Cross-checked with AI models

We run the formulas and unit conversions through several AI models to catch rounding slips and unusual inputs.

About

Built for people who order the materials

Place Calculator started with a question we kept hearing on real jobs: how much do we actually order? Garden centers sell by the bag, suppliers deliver by the ton or cubic yard, and quotes come in cubic meters. Our calculators handle the conversions, so you can price a job, load a trailer or plan a weekend project with confidence.

Every calculator is free, works in US and metric units and needs no sign-up. We show the formula behind each result, so you can check the math yourself before you spend a cent.

Measure once. Order the right amount.
